Installing the Divine Default Apps: Lesson from the Life Events of Elisha
Prophet Elisha used certain apps to do
ministry effectively during a time of ongoing spiritual compromise, political
unrest, and social instability. Before looking into those apps, first of all we
need to see the character of Elisha. If we do not have character then we will
not be compatible for God to work in our lives. Elisha was
¾ Faithful (1 Kings 19:21 – “Then he arose and followed Elijah and became his servant”). He was
deeply committed to Elijah and to the calling of God. He left everything
behind—family, possessions, and profession—to follow God’s will. We have to be
faithful to serve God. We need to serve Him wholeheartedly.
¾ Spiritually Desirous (2 Kings 2:9 – “Let a
double portion of your spirit be upon me”). Elisha did not settle for ordinary;
he desired a deeper anointing and greater effectiveness in ministry. We should
seek God’s Spirit to empower our lives and ministry.
¾ Compassionate (2 Kings 4:1-7 – Elisha helped a widow in distress by miraculously
multiplying her oil). Elisha was often involved in showing compassion to the
needy and the hurt. Compassion is central to Christ-like living. Our ministry
must touch lives with love and care.
¾ Courageous (2 Kings 6:16 – “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more
than those who are with them”). When surrounded by the enemy, Elisha remained
calm and bold because he trusted in the invisible power of God. Courage comes
from the faith upon God.
¾ Miracle Worker (e.g., healing Naaman – 2 Kings 5:1-14, raising a boy – 2 Kings 4:32-37). Elisha was
empowered by God. These signs confirmed his divine calling and revealed God’s
power through him. When we walk closely with God, our lives can become channels
for His supernatural work in the world.
¾ Humble Servant and Unselfish (e.g., from Naaman – 2 Kings
5:15-16). Elisha never used his prophetic status to gain fame or fortune.
He often turned down gifts. Humility is the hallmark of true leadership.
Serving others without any expectations is the heart of Jesus.
¾ Persistent and Loyal (2 Kings 2:1-14) Elisha stayed with Elijah until the very end and
never wavered in his loyalty. Elisha was persistent in following Elijah to
receive his mantle and power. Loyalty and perseverance are vital in ministry
and in relationships within the church.
The Four Default Apps from the Life of Elisha We Should Download and Install
1. Divine Navigation System / Google Maps (2 Kings 2:1–6; 2 Kings 2:11–14) – Elisha and Elijah traveled from Gilgal (the place where God renewed his covenant with Israel after they crossed the Jordan in Joshua 5) to Bethel (the house of God, where Jacob had the vision of the ladder Gen 28), Jericho (a city which was cursed but would be healed in the ministry of Elisha 2 Kings 2:18-22), and the Jordan (the place where Jesus was baptised) with purpose and timing. Elisha seemed to follow a divinely mapped path. It was like he had real-time spiritual navigation, knowing where and when to move. In fact, when God leads, He orders our steps. Jesus moved from place to place guided by the Spirit (Luke 4:1). We need to follow the divine path of righteousness and this app Divine Navigation System would help us to effectively navigate in our lives and ministry.
2. Divine Audio Surveillance / Spy Gadget / Hidden Microphone (2 Kings 6:8–12) – Whenever the king of Aram made plans in secret, Elisha knew them ahead of time and warned the king of Israel. It’s as if Elisha had a supernatural bugging device, definitely not made by man, but given by God. His ears were tuned to divine frequencies, picking up plans spoken in war rooms. When we are walking closely with God, we gain spiritual discernment, “hear” what others cannot. Jesus, too, knew people’s thoughts (Luke 6:8); the Holy Spirit now gives believers insight (John 16:13). Today, there are people who would manipulate you, dig pits behind you, the enemy plotting for you, the demons plotting in the war rooms to destroy. But to overcome and foresee and have the discerning spirit we should have a connection with the Divine Audio Serveillance – listening to God and seeking His voice always. Otherwise, we may end up becoming the victim of the voices of the evil world.
3. Divine Thermal Imaging / Seeing Beyond the Natural / (2 Kings 6:15–17) - Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, and he saw the mountain full of heavenly chariots. Elisha had spiritual vision enhancement—he could see the invisible realm. His servant needed “spiritual AR glasses” to see what Elisha already saw. Faith enables us to see the unseen reality of God's power and protection. Jesus opened the eyes of the blind (John 9), both physically and spiritually. He gives believers the vision of faith (2 Cor. 5:7 - For we live by faith, not by sight).
4. Divine Data Backup /Cloud Storage / Preserving Legacy and Power (2 Kings 2:9–15) – Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit—and received it after Elijah was taken. Elijah’s spiritual legacy was uploaded into the cloud of God's glory, then downloaded onto Elisha. Spiritual inheritance is real, and God preserves it for faithful successors. Jesus passed on His mission to the disciples and empowered them through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
Imagine ourselves as a smart device. We must have some default apps to have our life in line with God. Do install the Divine Navigation System to walk in the Righteous Path of God. The Divine Audio Surveillance to have the Spirit of Discernment. The Divine Thermal Imaging to see beyond the natural. And the Divine Data Backup to preserve the legacy and the power.
