Enrolled or Involved? The Call to True Christian Fellowship

One of the greatest blessings God has given to His people is the church. The church is not just a building we attend once a week—it is the body of Christ where believers gather to worship, grow, and encourage one another. Scripture reminds us of this truth: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (Acts 2:42). Fellowship and involvement are at the very heart of the Christian life.

Yet, in many churches today, we see different kinds of Christians:

  • Sunday Christians – seen only on Sundays, often late to arrive and quick to leave.
  • Sudden Christians – who appear once in a while, usually on festivals, acting as if they are active members.
  • Surprising Christians – whose presence shocks the church because people almost forgot they were members.
  • Sick Christians – who show up when they are in need of healing or special blessings.
  • Shocking Christians – who cause disturbances or division, robbing the church of peace.
  • Social Christians – come mainly for fellowship meals, potlucks, or social gatherings rather than worship.

But God does not call us to be any of these. Instead, He calls us to be Sincere Christians, faithfully involved in the life of the church. The writer of Hebrews reminds us: “Do not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25). True involvement is not about enrolment; it is about commitment.

Being involved in the church means more than sitting in a pew. It is about building up one another (1 Thess. 5:11), bearing each other’s burdens (Gal. 6:2), caring for one another (Rom. 12:10, 13), and walking in the joy of fellowship (1 John 1:7). It is about being available to God, to our pastor, and to our fellow believers—through prayers, Bible studies, fasting, mission work, or simply lending a helping hand.

When we are sincerely involved, our lives are transformed, and we become lights to the world around us (Matt. 5:16). The church grows strong not by enrolment but by the faithful involvement of its members.

So let us not settle for being “Sunday Christians” or “Sudden Christians.” Let us be sincere, faithful disciples of Christ—actively involved in His church for His glory.

God Bless

In His Service
