The Seven Essentials to Victory - Joshua 6:1-27
1.
Obedience
and Trust in God's Word (Joshua 6:2-5): God instructs
Joshua and the Israelites to march around the walls of Jericho for six days,
followed by seven times on the seventh day, and then blow trumpets. An
unconventional strategy required unwavering obedience and trust in God's word. Believers
are reminded that obeying God's commands, even when they seem unconventional or
challenging, is essential for victory in spiritual battles.
2.
The
Power of Worship and Praise (Joshua 6:16): The Israelites
were instructed to blow trumpets and shout after the seventh day's march. This
act of worship and praise played a significant role in the fall of Jericho. It serves as a
reminder that worship and praise can be powerful tools in breaking down
strongholds and obstacles in our lives. Believers
are encouraged to cultivate a lifestyle of worship and praise, even in the face
of challenges.
3.
Faithfully
Hoping in God’s Promises (Joshua 6:2,20): God had promised
the Israelites that He would give them the land of Canaan, including Jericho. The fall of
Jericho serves as a testament to God's faithfulness in keeping His promises. Believers
can take comfort in the assurance that God is faithful to His Word and will
fulfill His promises in their lives.
4.
Patience
and Perseverance in Spiritual Battles (Joshua 6:15): The Israelites had to march around
Jericho for seven days, in same manner, before witnessing its fall. This teaches
believers the importance of patience and perseverance in spiritual battles. Sometimes,
breakthroughs and victories may not come immediately, but persistence in faith
and prayer is crucial.
5.
Keep
Away from Sin and Live Holy (Joshua 6:17-18): Jericho was a
city known for its wickedness and idolatry. Its fall serves as a reminder of
the consequences of sin. Believers are encouraged to turn away from sinful
practices and seek God's righteousness. Just as Jericho faced judgment for its
sin, there will be consequences for unrepentant sin in our lives.
6.
Sincerely
Following God’s Commands (Joshua 6:20): Ultimately, it
was God who caused the walls of Jericho to fall. The story emphasizes that
victory belongs to the Lord. Believers are reminded that their successes and victories
are ultimately in God's hands, and they should rely on His strength rather than
their own. They have to charge
straight in (vs. 5 & 20)
7. Unity and Cooperation (Joshua 6:14,15,20,21,23,24): The Israelites acted in unity and followed Joshua's leadership. Cooperation and unity within the body of believers are essential in facing spiritual challenges and achieving victories. Believers should support and encourage one another in their faith journeys. Breaking through the barriers
in our lives requires obedience, preparation, perseverance, patience,
proclamation, unity and cooperation. By following these principles, just as the
Israelites did at Jericho, we can trust God to lead us to victory over any
challenge we face. Let us commit to these principles, relying on God’s power
and promises to overcome the obstacles in our path.
